Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The corona vaccinations for the people in Rhineland-Palatinate in priority groups 1 and 2 are still not completed.

"In the past two weeks alone, 140,000 people in these groups have registered," said the outgoing Health Minister Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthäler (SPD) on Thursday in Mainz.

Currently, almost 1,400 people from Group 1 and around 134,000 from Group 2 are still in the waiting pool at the vaccination centers.

"In Rhineland-Palatinate, we continue to adhere to the prioritization prescribed by the Federal Vaccination Ordinance," emphasized the minister.

"The vaccinations of priority group 2 always take place before the vaccinations of priority group 3."

The first group with the highest priority primarily includes people over the age of 80 and employees from health professions.

The second group with high priority includes people aged 70 to 79, contact persons for those in need of care and pregnant women, people with certain chronic diseases, as well as educators, primary school teachers and police officers.
