Hanover (dpa) - According to Tui, the planned gradual easing of tourism in Germany could come in time for a stable summer season in Germany as well.

“There will be a run on holiday hotels in the coastal regions and in the mountains in particular,” believes manager Nicole Sohnrey, who is responsible for car and city trips at the Hanover-based company, among other things.

From the current perspective, a “strong summer” is expected for the domestic destinations.

The most important holiday area in this country should therefore be the Baltic Sea coast again in 2021.

In the tourist model regions of Schleswig-Holstein, bookings have already increased significantly recently, with a good 70 percent above the previous year.

But also the interest in holidays in East Friesland, on the Mecklenburg Lake District, in the Black Forest or in Bavaria is high, reported Tui.

Further opening steps for the travel and hospitality industry could also consolidate the trend elsewhere.

"As soon as vacation in Germany is possible again, we expect a sharp increase in the booking volume," explained Sohnrey.

"The announced easing in many federal states and the possibility of vacation in Germany promised for Pentecost are also boosting demand."

Increasingly, customers were also interested in staying on well-equipped campsites or in mobile homes.
