Konstanz (dpa) - In view of the opening plans in Bavaria and Austria, the International Bodensee Tourismus GmbH is calling for perspectives in Baden-Württemberg soon before Whitsun.

"Existence of companies and their employees are at stake if the restart in some destinations is further delayed," said spokesman Markus Boehm on Thursday.

Free travel is "essential" for international Lake Constance tourism.

For the summer months there are already some signs of a boom on Lake Constance, said Böhm. Ultimately, however, the success of tourism businesses depends on the balance sheet over the entire year. Last year, the number of overnight stays in the region fell by 30 percent due to the corona. Since the companies that are already open in Switzerland are well attended, there is now expectation that something will also happen in Baden-Württemberg.

Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) recently cautiously raised hopes of open beer gardens and hotel areas during the Whitsun holidays in regions less affected by Corona in view of a slightly falling seven-day incidence.

The Ministry of Social Affairs promised to clarify this in good time before Pentecost.

In Bavaria, Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) announced on Tuesday that they would again allow Whitsun leave in regions with low corona infection rates.
