Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The SPD was the first of the three traffic light partners to approve the coalition agreement for the new government in Rhineland-Palatinate.

307 of the 319 delegates voted for the contract on Thursday evening at the digital party conference.

Climate neutrality by 2040 at the latest, the expansion of biotechnology and attractive city centers are the three focal points.

Prime Minister Malu Dreyer had previously promoted the priorities of climate protection, educational justice and work.

"We are the first federal state that has set itself this ambitious climate target," she said in Mainz - where the board of directors met live in a hall.

"Everything we decide today has to be about sustainability," said Dreyer.

The three parties had negotiated the coalition agreement for more than five weeks in camera.

The constituent meeting of the new state parliament with the election of the Prime Minister is planned for May 18th.

On the same day, the four ministers are to be appointed in the state chancellery and then confirmed and sworn in by the state parliament.

The three parties together have 55 of the 101 seats in the new state parliament.

A new Ministry for Labor, Social Affairs, Transformation and Digitization.

The Ministry of Health is getting science.

The SPD takes over both ministries.

The Ministry of the Environment, led by the Greens, will in future also be responsible for climate protection and mobility.

The SPD will provide five ministers in the new traffic light government, the Greens and the FDP again two each.

The SPD retains eight state secretaries, the FDP three.

The strengthened Greens can name four instead of two.
