Seoul (AP) - In front of the South Korean industrial city of Ulsan, the world's largest offshore wind farm with floating wind turbines is to be built by 2030.

According to the government, investments of 36 trillion won (26.6 billion euros) are planned for the project with an installed capacity of 6 gigawatts.

President Moon Jae In pledged the government's full support when presenting the plans in the southeastern coastal city on Thursday.

In the first phase, the public and private sectors would initially provide 1.4 trillion won by 2025, Moon was quoted by the national news agency Yonhap as saying.

"The government will take the lead first."

According to his office, Moon said the proposed wind farm represents an important opportunity to achieve South Korea's carbon neutrality target by 2050 and to fuel the economy.

When completed, the planned wind farm is expected to supply almost 5.8 million households in Ulsan and the surrounding region with green electricity.
