Halle (dpa / sa) - The police searched an Asian snack bar in Halle on suspicion of the commercial smuggling of foreigners.

The 53-year-old owner is said to have brokered fictitious marriages for payment primarily to Vietnamese nationals in order to legalize their stay in Germany, the police said on Thursday.

As an employer, he is also said to have provided Vietnamese nationals with illegal access to the labor market and provided false information to the tax office and social security.

He is said to have gained financial advantages through his approach.

The police searched the man's home and business on Wednesday.

The suspicion against him was confirmed by investigations by the main customs office in Magdeburg.

Investigations into offenses under tax law and the Anti-Illicit Work Act had been initiated there.

The authority informed the federal police about the knowledge gained.

According to the police, a large number of pieces of evidence, including accounting documents, private documents and passports, were found in the course of the searches.

These are now viewed and evaluated.

In addition, the emergency services secured around 36,000 euros in cash.
