Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The police recorded fewer cases of political crime in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania last year than in 2019. The number fell by 2.7 percent to 1,386 cases, as Interior Minister Torsten Renz (CDU) announced on Thursday.

However, there was an increase in right-wing extremist crimes by 4.3 percent to 1012 cases, while the number of left-wing extremist crimes fell by 37.6 percent to 174.

Offenses with a foreign ideological or religious background increased from 7 to 28 at a low level.

More than every tenth case (172) could therefore not be assigned to any phenomenon area.

Of the 1386 crimes, 86 were violent, 6 more than in the previous year.
