Munich (dpa) - After often months of forced Corona break, the family ministers of the federal and state governments are committed to enabling youth work in presence again soon or to expand the offers.

That said the chairwoman of the family ministers' conference, Bavaria's head of department Carolina Trautner (CSU), on Thursday after online consultations in Munich.

Every federal state goes its own way, said Trautner.

"But we all have one goal in common: We are committed to allowing meeting rooms for young people and presence opportunities in youth work again soon or to opening them up further."

In principle, one also wants to achieve “that the restrictions for children and young people can be relaxed again as soon as possible,” said Trautner.

Among other things, the federal and state governments want to jointly advertise the youth work offers after the many months of the pandemic - and also continue to promote the expansion of digital offers.

However, digital contacts cannot replace “real” contacts.

"Children and young people are particularly affected by the pandemic," said Trautner.

Therefore, everything must be done to keep the negative consequences as low as possible.

And where necessary, you have to provide a balance through special support programs.

Hamburg's Senator for Social Affairs Melanie Leonhard (SPD) said: "We are now again in a situation in which we are not only allowed to discuss incidences, but must include the well-being of young people as a factor in our current considerations."

Federal Family Minister Franziska Giffey (SPD) said: «Children, young people and their families look back on a long and hard time.

We see a loss of education and loyalty, we see emotional and physical stress.

It is important to tackle together so that children and young people can catch up on what has been missed. "

For the first time, children and young people also had their say at the conference to contribute ideas on how they can be more involved in current issues and political decisions.

"Especially in times of Corona, strengthening the participation of children and young people is more important than ever," said Trautner.
