  • Elections 4-M Pablo Iglesias announces that he is leaving politics: "I am leaving all my positions"

The Minister of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, Ione Belarra, is the main candidate to lead Podemos after Pablo Iglesias leaves politics, an exit that he announced last Tuesday after knowing the electoral results in Madrid.

This is how

InfoLibre

has advanced it

and has been able to contrast this newspaper.

The figure of Belarra, who has not officially nominated for the moment as a candidate, would fulfill the objective of achieving a female leadership for the

purple

formation

and of reinforcing the bicephaly system with United We Can.

The main candidate to head the electoral coalition is the fourth vice president of the Government, Yolanda Díaz.

In this way, the internal framework facing the

purple

brand would be solved

, since to lead Podemos, according to the statutes, it is necessary to have been a member of the party for at least six months.

A condition that Yolanda Díaz, who comes from the PCE, does not meet.

However, it is the militancy that must ratify the new leaderships both in Podemos and in Unidos Podemos.

For the moment, the Executive of Podemos will take the reins of the party when the departure of Iglesias is formalized, and will be in charge of convening the Citizen Assembly from which the new structure of the

purple

formation emerges

.

Although this internal congress was scheduled for 2023, the function of the Executive will be to accelerate the deadlines to have the new leader of Podemos as soon as possible.

From the party they emphasize that this process "has not been called" at the moment "nor does it have a scheduled date."

Ione Belarra has already replaced Pablo Iglesias in the Executive.

When the former vice president announced his intention to compete electorally in the Community of Madrid, he handed over the vice presidency to Yolanda Díaz and the ministry of Social Rights and the 2030 Agenda to Ione Belarra, who to date had served as the Secretary of State for the 2030 Agenda. In his last institutional act, Iglesias was convinced that Belarra could develop his position at the head of the ministry much better than him.

Belarra herself highlighted the work of Iglesias in these seven years at the head of Podemos after knowing that he was leaving politics.

The minister thanked him publicly for having taught her how to be "militants of life", in a reference to the poet and writer Mario Benedetti.
