Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The police union (GdP) has criticized the coalition agreement for the second traffic light government in Rhineland-Palatinate as “too abstract”.

Many formulations in the draft, which is good in itself, left a lot of room for interpretation at crucial points, said GdP boss Sabrina Kunz on Thursday in Mainz.

The GdP is pleased that the coalition partners recognize that the challenges required an increase in personnel.

However, 10,000 fully trained police officers are urgently needed now.

"We need them to compensate for parental leave, part-time employment and for long overdue relief," said Kunz.

According to the coalition agreement, this number should not be reached until October 2024.

And it is not clear whether only heads or fully trained officials are meant.

In the opinion of the GdP, in addition to the 500 new candidates per year envisaged in the coalition agreement, another 75 positions “in administrative and collective bargaining” are necessary every year.

The GdP state vice-president Stefanie Loth, who is responsible for civil servant policy, also criticized the fact that the transfer of the collective bargaining agreements of the federal states to civil servants and pension recipients had been made dependent on the budget situation.

The topic of allowances does not even come up.

The compensation for the special physical and psychological stresses of the police profession was left out.

According to its own statements, the GdP is by far the largest representation of the interests of the police in Rhineland-Palatinate.

It has around 9,500 members.

The three traffic light partners SPD, Greens and FDP should vote on the coalition agreement on Thursday evening at separate digital party congresses.
