06 May 2021 Concern of the Federation of oncologists, cardiologists and hematologists (Foce) for the circular of the scientific technical committee extending the interval between the two inoculations of the mRNA vaccines against the SasrCoV2 virus: "The second dose of the anti-Covid vaccine must be done by 21 days to the most fragile. In cancer patients the three-week interval must be respected ", warn the experts.

People affected by cancer, explains the president Foce Francesco Cognetti, "do not develop an adequate antibody response after the first administration. Therefore, the recall times must not be extended".

"While we understand the objectives - explains Cognetti - we are very worried about the decision of the Scientific Technical Committee to extend the interval between the first and second dose of the two anti Covid mRNA vaccines from 21 and 28 days to 42 even for frail patients. Oncology patients on active treatment, in particular, must instead be vaccinated with the second injection within 21 days. Scientific evidence shows that these extremely vulnerable citizens are less likely than healthy people to develop an antibody response after the first dose of the vaccine produced by Pfizer (BNT162b2) and should have priority for the second dose within three weeks. "

Cognetti, also director of the Medical Oncology of the Regina Elena Institute in Rome, therefore asks the Scientific Technical Committee and the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, that the circular on the extension of the anti Covid immunization intervals to cancer patients and , in all likelihood, even to all those considered extremely fragile.
