Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Brandenburg's Minister of Education Britta Ernst (SPD) is relying on corona vaccinations for school children for the coming school year.

"After the summer, I hope, we will also be able to vaccinate children from the age of twelve," said Ernst of the "Märkische Oderzeitung" (Thursday).

"With the vaccination of teachers and the mandatory test strategy, this makes schools even safer."

The planned tutoring programs to catch up on learning backlogs due to the school closings could only take effect in classroom teaching.

When asked whether children should repeat grades, Ernst advised parents to weigh this carefully.

"I recommend parents, where the entire study group is perhaps not quite so advanced, not to tear the children and young people out of their familiar social contexts," said the minister.

The schools are set to make up for the learning arrears from the coming school year.

"If parents have the impression that their child is completely left behind in the study group, then I would seek an interview with the school to consider repeating it," said Ernst.
