Lübeck / Freiburg (dpa) - Great interest in holiday bookings in the north, worries in tourism regions in the southwest: the different opening strategies of the federal states are causing uncertainty.

While the tourist model regions in Schleswig-Holstein are registering a real rush of booking inquiries, owners of hotels and holiday apartments in the Black Forest and on Lake Constance fear that they will fall behind when domestic tourism starts up again.

There has been no booking boom for Whitsun in Upper Bavaria so far.

The Stuttgart state government has not yet shown any clear prospects for the travel industry in Baden-Württemberg, criticized a spokesman for Schwarzwald Tourismus GmbH.

"Unfortunately it is a very chaotic picture."

There is indeed a "huge rush" of people willing to travel in the region.

"But we cannot make any promise at the moment that holiday apartments, hotels and campsites will be open at Whitsun."

The Internationale Bodensee Tourismus GmbH complained: "The livelihoods of companies and their employees are at stake if the restart in some destinations is further delayed."

The Ministry of Social Affairs in Baden-Württemberg promised to clarify this in good time before Pentecost.

Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU), who had announced that he would allow holidays in the Free State during the Whitsun holidays in regions with low corona infection rates, was already more specific. A booking boom in the Upper Bavarian holiday regions at Whitsun has so far failed to materialize. The interest is great, but there are still uncertainties, said the managing director of the Upper Bavaria and Munich tourism association, Oswald Pehel. "We need answers, especially regarding the test strategy." Hotels and vacation homes should be allowed to receive guests on May 21, if the incidence is below 100 for at least seven days.

According to the tourism agency Schleswig-Holstein, the phones are running hot in the tourism centers of the Inner Bay of Lübeck, the Schleiregion, the district of North Friesland and the municipality of Büsum. In the Inner Bay of Lübeck, including the town of Timmendorfer Strand, holidays are again possible under strict conditions from Saturday. The island of Sylt and the district of North Friesland have been welcoming guests again since May 1st. Holidaymakers who do not live in Schleswig-Holstein are also allowed to travel there, provided they have a current negative Corona test.

The neighboring state of Lower Saxony wants to start easing with a step-by-step plan from next Monday.

In counties and cities with a stable seven-day incidence below 100, tourism should be possible under certain conditions - but initially only for guests from Lower Saxony.

According to the travel company Tui, the planned gradual easing of tourism in Germany could come in time for a stable summer season in Germany as well.

"Especially in the coastal regions and in the mountains there will be a run on holiday hotels," believes the manager Nicole Sohnrey, who is responsible for car and city trips at the industry leader.

From the current perspective, a “strong summer” is expected for the domestic destinations.

The most important holiday area in this country should therefore be the Baltic Sea coast again in 2021.

In the tourist model regions of Schleswig-Holstein, bookings have already increased significantly recently, with a good 70 percent above the previous year.

But also the interest in holidays in East Friesland, on the Mecklenburg Lake District, in the Black Forest or in Bavaria is high, reported Tui.

"As soon as vacation in Germany is possible again, we expect a sharp increase in the booking volume," explained Sohnrey.
