Hamburg (dpa / lno) - Almost 20,000 people were vaccinated against the corona virus in Hamburg on Wednesday.
The record number was declared by the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians and the health authorities with the increased importance of medical practices.
The resident doctors vaccinated almost 12,000 hamburgers on Wednesday, the doctors' association announced on Thursday.
According to the health authorities, a further 7922 syringes were administered in the vaccination center, by mobile teams and in hospitals.
A good 120,000 people had a corona vaccination in the around 1,000 Hamburg practices in the past four weeks, explained the chairman of the Hamburg Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, Walter Plassmann.
"This shows how powerful the outpatient system is."
Plassmann added: "The fact that there have not been more is solely due to the lack of a vaccine."
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), 563,861 Hamburgers received a first vaccination and 142,160 of them received a second vaccination by Wednesday.
The Hanseatic city has almost 1.9 million inhabitants.

The medical association called for the prioritization of those eligible for vaccination at Astrazeneca to be lifted.
"Doctors currently spend far too much time convincing skeptical patients of the vaccine," it said.
The federal and state health ministers wanted to discuss the topic on Thursday.
The spokesman for the Hamburg health authority, Martin Helfrich, said: "We are assuming that such a decision will be made."
The authority appealed to citizens not to simply let the vaccination appointments that have been booked expire.
If you do not want to or cannot keep an appointment, you should cancel it.
On Thursday morning, around 400 of 900 appointments at the vaccination center were canceled, said Helfrich.
That is a uniquely high number.
The reasons for this are unknown.
"If a lot of appointments are missed, it paralyzes the vaccination rate," warned the spokesman.
