China Disease Control Disclosures: Three Chongqing returnees suspected of being infected with mutated new crown virus from India

The spread of the new coronavirus mutation in India has attracted much attention, and the import risk in my country is also increasing.

Recently, the “Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention Weekly” (English) disclosed 3 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus entering Chongqing. Genome sequencing revealed that the virus infected by these 3 confirmed patients was a mutated virus circulating in India. It is speculated that the infection may occur. in India.

The above cases were disclosed in the paper "Emerging Variants of B.1.617 Lineage Identified Among Returning Chinese Employees Working in India — Chongqing Municipality, China, April 2021", the author is from Chongqing CDC, China CDC, etc.

The paper shows that the 3 confirmed patients (aged between 20-30) are from the same mobile phone company, which has a production base in Noida, India, and they have been there with their Indian colleagues since the end of 2019 jobs.

They are well protected in the workplace and are required to work in a dust-free environment. They have taken relevant preventive measures to deal with the new coronavirus pandemic in daily life in India.

According to an epidemiological investigation report, the trip of the three began on April 19, when they chartered a car from Noy, India to the Indian capital of New Delhi, and transferred to Kathmandu, Nepal on the same day.

They wore protective clothing, N95 masks, goggles and gloves throughout the trip.

In Kathmandu, they took a chartered car to the hotel and stayed there until April 21.

On the morning of the 21st, they took a chartered car to the airport and took adequate protective measures before flying to Chongqing, China.

The flow report showed that their nucleic acid tests in India were negative for many times, and the latest negative results of patient A and patient B were on April 17th, and the latest negative result of patient C was on April 19th.

In Chongqing, the three were transferred to the Chongqing Public Health Medical Center, a designated hospital for the treatment of new coronary pneumonia.

The body temperature of the three patients was normal, but the chest CT results suggested infectious lesions, and they were diagnosed as new coronary cases.

The paper shows that samples of confirmed patients have been sent to the Chongqing Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and sequenced from April 28th to 30th.

The analysis of the genome sequence showed that these isolates belonged to the Pangolin lineage B.1.617, which is an emerging variant of India. The observed mutation sites in the 3 isolates are the same as the B.1.617.2 variant of India, which supports these 3 cases. The patient's infection may have occurred in India.
