Freiburg (dpa) - Owners of hotels and holiday apartments in the Black Forest fear that they will do worse than other popular destinations in Germany when domestic tourism starts up again.

The Stuttgart state government has not yet shown any clear prospects for the travel industry in Baden-Württemberg, said the spokesman for Schwarzwald Tourismus GmbH, Wolfgang Weiler, on Thursday for the German press agency.

"Unfortunately it is a very chaotic picture."

There is indeed a "huge rush" of people willing to travel in the region.

"But we cannot make any promise at the moment that holiday apartments, hotels and campsites will be open at Whitsun."

In view of a slightly falling seven-day incidence, Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann recently cautiously raised hopes of open beer gardens and hotel areas during the Whitsun holidays in regions less affected by Corona. Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU), for example, announced on Tuesday that he would again allow holidays in the Free State during the Whitsun holidays in regions with low corona infection rates.

It is regrettable that there is now a patchwork quilt in the various federal states, said Black Forest tourism spokesman Weiler.

"I'm actually afraid that the Black Forest will fall behind compared to Bavaria."

The hosts in the Black Forest, who in normal times accounted for 40 percent of the tourist overnight stays in Baden-Württemberg, are now advised to allow bookings over Whitsun, but to grant generous cancellation conditions - "so that, if trips are allowed at short notice, the guests can come" said Hamlet.
