Munich (dpa / lby) - In order to absorb the pandemic-related learning deficits of schoolchildren, the Bavarian Association of Philologists calls for systematic, individual support.

The association announced on Thursday in Munich that diagnosis and funding weeks must be set up, as well as additional funding time.

The situation is very different from region to region and even within a class.

However, the need for support and recovery measures in order to maintain the quality of education in Bavaria is undisputed.

"In order to catch up with corona-related learning delays, you have to identify them first," explained chairman Michael Schwägerl.

The High School Teachers' Association therefore advocates the establishment of a task force to create suitable diagnostic tools for all grades.

The last weeks of this and the first weeks of the coming school year should then “exclusively serve the diagnosis, the individual feedback and the support through catching up, repeating, deepening and broadening of contents and competences”.

Only then can the curriculum continue.

In addition, two intensification lessons in German, mathematics and the foreign languages should be offered in the fifth grade.

In addition, the philologists' association requires a full-time position per school in order to be able to implement support concepts.
