Weingarten (dpa / lsw) - The traditional “blood walk” in Weingarten in Upper Swabia will take place again this year, due to the corona, without believers or spectators and with only a few riders.

The Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese announced on Thursday that only a small group would accompany the holy blood relic.

Parts of the procession are to be broadcast on the Internet.

Women are not there, despite the fact that they have been admitted for the first time.

The diocese announced that the plan to have the procession on May 14th with 200 representatives of the individual groups had to be abandoned because of the current Corona situation.

The plan was linked to a stable seven-day incidence of less than 100 new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, the value on Thursday in the Ravensburg district was 157.7 (as of 3:09 a.m.).

Actually, women would have been admitted to the equestrian procession for the first time this year.

The governing body of the organizing Catholic parish of St. Martin made a corresponding decision in November 2020 after years of discussions.

In this year's small group of riders, however, there are only men, said a spokesman for the diocese.
