Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Baden-Württemberg's universities can expect a further injection of funds even after the current billion-euro package for university financing.

After the previous agreement expires, the green-black state government will step up in 2025, according to the coalition agreement of the designated green-black partners presented in Stuttgart on Wednesday.

"We are committed to the implementation of the University Financing Agreement II by 2025 and want to continue to guarantee future-proof financing in a subsequent agreement", both parties stipulated for the coming legislative period.

The current financing agreement provides that all universities across the country together will receive a total of 1.8 billion euros more by 2025.

In purely mathematical terms, the agreed amount corresponds to an increase of around 360 million euros or 3.5 percent per year.

Added to this are 285 million euros each year, which so far have only been paid for a limited period and which in future will surely flow annually to maintain study capacities.

The contract concerns the state universities in the southwest, which have a total of more than 330,000 students.

The previous contract was valid since 2015 and expired at the end of 2020.

Even before the outbreak of the pandemic, the opposition and universities expressed doubts as to whether the money would be enough in the face of new tasks.
