Herne (dpa / lnw) - The police in Herne stopped a souped-up sports car with up to 120 decibels of engine noise.

The 25-year-old driver apparently tampered with the car's exhaust system and removed mufflers, the police said on Wednesday.

A test with the sound level meter gave the value that corresponds to an exploding Chinese bullet, a jackhammer or the rumble of thunder from a severe thunderstorm.

The approximately 300 hp car was towed away.

The driver has to reckon with expensive trouble - among other things, his driving license suitability should be checked.

"When the police officers left the site after the completion of the measures, there was soft applause (about 30 decibels) from the neighborhood," says the message.

Several residents had complained to the police about the noise in the densely built-up residential area before the inspection on Monday afternoon.
