Sweden is one of the first group of countries to test the system for the EU's green certificates at the beginning of 10 May, which will facilitate travel within the EU.

Vaccination certificates that can be verified by the EU system thus seem to be on the way.

But the question still remains as to how to get results from covid tests and evidence of a past infection in the system, where data is spread in several places.

The new thing is that the recovery certificate must also include results if you have undergone antibody testing with a positive result.

- We have just received a new government assignment to include.

We are working on how the processes can be developed to quickly access data, says Mats Snäll, who leads the project at the Swedish Agency for Digital Administration.

"EU model complicated and rigid"

Estonia is already working on a system for this based on the blockchain.

Data is stored encrypted and distributed in the network by those who participate.

Unlike the EU variant, no central hub is needed, which all countries must connect to for certificate verification.

Ain Aaviksoo at Guardtime, who developed the Estonian solution, calls the EU model "complicated and rigid".

- The EU demands more IT development from the countries and moreover it can not be used for anything other than what it is built for.

With a digital infrastructure based on the blockchain, it is easier to scale up and include countries outside the EU in the system, says Aaviksoo, who also sees opportunities to use it for other health data once the pandemic is over.

- How much resources should be invested in building something that will only be used for less than a year?

he says.

Iceland FHM: "We bet on all horses"

The same way of thinking exists in Iceland, which thanks to its centralized, digitized, health data is at the forefront of launching covid-pass.

These days, they are connecting to the Estonian variant together with Hungary.

In a few days, they say they will be able to put the EU's green evidence into operation.

But the tourism nation of Iceland is not content with that.

- We invest in all horses and work towards a dozen different covid passes at the same time. Hopefully there will be some global standard in the end with WHO or similar, says Ingi Steinar, head of E-health at the Icelandic equivalent of the Swedish Public Health Agency.
