Dresden (AP) - In the process of the fatal attack on two tourists in Dresden, the judgment at the Higher Regional Court could be pronounced on May 21.

According to Wednesday, the pleadings are expected on Thursday and probably on May 19.

A young Syrian is charged with the murder and attempted murder of two tourists from North Rhine-Westphalia.

He came to Germany as a minor refugee in 2015 and is considered an Islamist threat.

The federal prosecutor's office accuses the 21-year-old of having stabbed the men from behind on October 4, 2020 because of a radical Islamist conviction.

A 55-year-old died, his life partner barely survived.

In discussions with an appraiser, A. admitted the act and explained it with the aim of killing unbelievers in his opinion.

In 2018, the defendant had already been sentenced to a youth sentence for propaganda for the terror network Islamic State (IS), which was tightened after attacks on law enforcement officers.

He was only released at the end of September 2020 - against strict conditions.

After the bloody act on October 4, he was initially able to escape undetected, but was caught just three weeks later.
