Bielefeld (dpa / lnw) - Employees at a hardware store in Bielefeld caught a man throwing goods from a shopping cart over the fence in the outdoor area.

When asked about this, the 41-year-old from Bielefeld, who was caught in the act on Tuesday, replied that he was not doing anything, the police said on Wednesday.

The thief later confessed to summoned officials that he wanted to steal electrical appliances worth around 600 euros, including two cordless jigsaws.

One of them got stuck between the fence and a high rack during a failed attempt to throw it.

The thief was first noticed by an employee who worked outside the fenced garden department.

When goods flew over the fence, he alerted his colleagues inside.

The 41-year-old, who was known to the police, was arrested and charged with theft.
