Gelsenkirchen (dpa) - Youri Mulder is a new co-opted member of the supervisory board at FC Schalke 04. This was announced by the Bundesliga club, who had already been relegated, on Wednesday.

The 52-year-old Dutchman replaces Dirk Metz, who resigned at the regular meeting on Tuesday after six years on the committee.

Mulder was elected unanimously and named directly to the sports committee.

The supervisory board can co-opt up to three members.

The decision is valid for two years and can be revoked at any time.

In Mulder, "even after Huub Stevens' departure, there was a highly competent contact person with footballing expertise" on the supervisory board, said committee chairman Jens Buchta.

Schalke's “coach of the century” Stevens (67) is leaving his post after three years in the summer.

Mulder played for Schalke from 1993 to 2002 and won the UEFA Cup in 1997 as a member of the so-called "Eurofighter" and the DFB Cup in 2001 and 2002.

From 2008 to 2009 he was the club's co-trainer and interim trainer.
