Karlsruhe (dpa) - The Karlsruhe energy company EnBW has drawn a line under the legal dispute with technical board member Hans-Josef Zimmer over controversial Russia deals.

It was about claims of almost 90 million euros.

The background was questionable contracts with the Russian lobbyist Andrey Bykov, for which there was insufficient consideration and which, according to earlier information, caused the group about 130 million euros in damage.

With a clear majority of 99.99 percent, the general meeting on Wednesday approved a proposal by the supervisory board and management board to enter into a settlement with Zimmer. Because of "several events" such as inspection of files at the public prosecutor's office, the situation had to be reassessed, explained board member Colette Rückert-Hennen at the digital event. Accordingly, the chances of success for the group are now lower than for Zimmer.

In a report by the supervisory board and management board - without a room - it says: "Overall, (...) the interest of EnBW AG and the company in finally finalizing the legal processing of the Russian business and drawing a line."

According to the settlement, EnBW and its subsidiary EnKK are withdrawing their liability claims, Zimmer agrees.

All parties involved forego a cost compensation.

Zimmer resigned from his position on the board in the summer of 2010 after the allegations became known.

He returned to office in early 2012.

The 62-year-old will retire at the end of May.

The tasks will be expanded and divided between the new board positions “System-critical infrastructure” and “Generation infrastructure”.
