Former US President Donald Trump has sharply criticized the continuation of his ban on the online platform Facebook.

The actions of Facebook, but also Twitter and Google are an "absolute disgrace," said Trump on Wednesday.

"Free speech has been taken away from the President of the United States because radical left-wing madmen are afraid of the truth."

The “corrupt social media” would have to pay a “political price”, declared the right-wing populist.

"What Facebook, Twitter and Google have done is an absolute shame and embarrassment for our country."

The Facebook supervisory body had previously temporarily confirmed the former US president's ban on the online platform.

The so-called Oversight Board of independent experts said on Wednesday that Facebook would have to re-examine the case within six months.

The move was "justified" after the violent storming of the Capitol on January 6th.

However, the "unlimited suspension" imposed on Trump is not permitted because such a penalty is not provided for in the Facebook regulations, the committee said.

After years of tolerating misinformation and insults from Trump for many years, Facebook and Instagram made the decision to shut down his accounts the day after his supporters stormed the Capitol in Washington on January 6th.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the risk of continuing to allow Trump access to the platform was too great.

Politicians, freedom of expression experts and activists around the world watched the decision with tension.

It has implications not only for Trump, but for technology companies, heads of government and all members of parties who reach out to their supporters via social media.

A day before the decision of the Facebook oversight board, Trump had introduced a new blog on his website. There declarations of the ex-president are listed in chronological order, which can also be found elsewhere on the website. However, the blog posts can be shared on Facebook and Twitter. Trump spokesman Jason Miller said the blog was not yet the former president's announced social media platform. Information on this would be communicated in the near future.
