05 May 2021 Next Tuesday the points of sale of all the shopping centers in Italy will demonstrate against the closures on weekends with the symbolic gesture of lowering the shutters for a few minutes. The initiative, which involves 30,000 shops and supermarkets, is promoted by trade associations, ANCD-Conad, Confcommercio, Confesercenti, Confimprese, CNCC-National Council of Shopping Centers and Federdistribuzione, which demand "the immediate revocation of the restrictive measures that over 6 months require the closure of shops on public holidays and pre-holidays ".

The trade associations "want to give a voice to the 780,000 workers of the 1,300 integrated commercial structures present throughout the country, who have been living for over a year in a climate of great uncertainty, aggravated by the stringent measures with which the government prevents thousands of commercial activities to work on the weekend, or on the most important days of the week in terms of revenues and turnover ", states a joint statement from ANCD-Conad, Confcommercio, Confesercenti, Confimprese, CNCC-National Council of Shopping Centers and Federdistribuzione.

The event also aims to "reaffirm the safety of shopping centers, parks and galleries which, since the beginning of the pandemic, have adopted rigorous protocols, ensuring that no cases of outbreak have occurred in these structures. Since the beginning of the emergency, the the shopping center sector has engaged in a constructive dialogue with the Government, also by voluntarily and free of charge making 160 facilities available on the national territory for the creation of vaccination hubs ", adds the note of the trade associations that" they hope to be able to obtain from the institutions certain and timely responses, to restart a sector that has been most damaged by the crisis, which continues to operate only partially and without a clear prospect of recovery ".
