Today, Wednesday, Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniyam Jaishankar withdrew from the "Group of Seven" meetings in the British capital, London, due to fears that he might be infected with the Coronavirus.

The minister said - on Twitter - that he was informed yesterday evening (Tuesday) that he had been in contact with cases of infection with the Coronavirus, according to what was reported by the Associated Press.

He added, "As a precaution and also in consideration of others, I decided to conduct all my engagements and meetings virtually."

Jaishankar wrote - on Twitter - saying, "We learned yesterday about contact with suspected cases of Covid-19, and as a precaution and in the interest of others I decided to participate remotely and this will be the case with the G7 meetings today as well."

For its part, the British government said - today, Wednesday - that all members of the Indian delegation - participating in the summit of the Group of Seven major industrialized countries in London - have isolated themselves after tests confirmed that two of them were infected with Covid-19.

A British official stated that "two of the members of the delegation have tested positive, so the entire delegation is now isolating itself."

"The summit was possible after imposing a strict set of anti-Corona measures, including daily examination of all delegations," the official added.

Diplomats from the Group of Seven are meeting in London for their first face-to-face gathering in two years.

It is noteworthy that India is not a member of the group, but today it was invited along with South Korea, Australia and South Africa as guests for the second day of the summit meetings.

The Group of Seven is an organization consisting of 7 major industrial countries in the world, namely Canada, the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom.

The delegations of the aforementioned countries did not attend the opening of the meetings yesterday, but the Indian minister held a meeting in London with his American counterpart Anthony Blinken.

Yesterday, the health authorities in India announced that the death toll from Coronavirus had exceeded 20 million.
