Jever (dpa / lni) - Because of vaccinations with a saline solution, more than 100 people in the Friesland district have been asked to have a blood sample for antibody tests.

The appointments were kept as planned, said a district spokeswoman in Jever on Wednesday.

The tests are intended to check who has already received a first vaccination against Covid-19.

The action is necessary because an employee of the vaccination center had admitted that two weeks ago she filled six syringes with saline instead of Biontech vaccine.

According to the authorities, a bottle of Biontech fell down while mixing the vaccine, which she wanted to cover up.

The woman is under investigation.

According to district information, blood was drawn from a total of 118 people who had been vaccinated for the first time - 78 people came to the vaccination center near Schortens and 40 people to the district service center in Varel.

Initially, the district had reported tests on 117 people - according to the German Red Cross, one person was registered on Wednesday and should also be tested.

The samples should be sent to the State Health Office in the evening.

The district expects results by next Monday.

People without antibody detection should then be vaccinated on May 12th.

For around 80 people who received a second vaccination in the incident on April 21, antibody tests are out of the question, according to the district administration.

These tests therefore cannot be used to clearly determine whether antibodies from a first or second vaccination are present.

The district wants to offer those affected, in consultation with the State Health Office and the Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO), a third vaccination if no strong vaccination reaction has occurred after the vaccination appointment on April 21.

In this way, the vaccination protection of people with a second vaccination should be ensured.
