Rostock (dpa) - After the judgment of the Federal Constitutional Court on climate protection for future generations, there is a risk of an intensified conflict over areas for wind turbines.
"To ensure the necessary expansion, we need the space," said the chairman of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania wind energy network, Andree Iffländer, to the German press agency before the National Maritime Conference next week.

Germany has already placed more than 45 percent of its marine waters under protection, Iffländer warned.
The average value in other EU countries is 12 percent.

At the end of last year, the Bundestag raised the expansion targets for offshore wind energy - to 20 gigawatts (GW) for 2030 and 40 GW for 2040. Iffländer was convinced that these 40 GW would not be enough.
He sees the target of 50 GW by 2050.
Last week the Federal Constitutional Court obliged the legislature to regulate the reduction targets for greenhouse gas emissions for the period after 2030 in more detail by the end of next year.
Climate protection must be improved in order to protect the rights of future generations.
