- Sweden has fantastic conditions for boating.

But it's too easy to set up a jetty to have your boat at.

It makes a big impression, says Per Moksnes, researcher at the Institute of Marine Environment, University of Gothenburg.

In the clip, you follow to the marina - and get to know what happens under the surface when the piers become more and more.

Minister of the Environment: "Nine new marine reserves"

Do new construction of bridges need to be regulated more strictly than what is happening today by the municipalities?

Why does no authority have overall responsibility for the spread of leisure jetties in view of their environmental impact on sensitive seabeds?

Per Bolund (MP).

- The government has worked hard to strengthen the protection of both seas and lakes in recent years.

Among other things, we have made large budget investments in the marine environment, and set up many new protected marine areas.

In 2020 alone, nine new marine reserves were established, writes Per Bolund (MP) in an email to SVT Nyheter.

Several investigations underway

In January, the Environmental Objectives Committee presented “The sea and man”, a proposal for a new strategy to strengthen the work with conservation and sustainable use of the sea and marine environments.

The proposal is now out for consultation.

- I can not go into which of the proposals the government will go ahead with yet, but I can state that they shed light on this very issue in their report.

The beach protection investigation also addresses bridges and their effects on the aquatic environment, and this investigation is also out for consultation, writes Per Bolund.

On Tuesday 4 May, we will continue on the theme of leisure life, but now we take a closer look at the approximately 110,000 jetties and how they affect the water and the environment.

And even now we hear your thoughts - and reconnaissance!

What environmental changes do you see around the coasts?

How do you really know how many engines there are in this category?

I did not hear that a source was mentioned in the report.

How many hours do you think these are used and how much impact do they have.

With our short boating season, it is probably not many hours per year.

Most people probably do not get in the water at all.

Why do you not turn to the authorities, they are the ones who set the regulations for both boat engines and bottom paint.

The boat industry is adapting to this.

Painting the boat owners as environmental criminals feels quite distasteful.

Most people undoubtedly do their best to make good environmental choices both in connection with boating and for the rest of their lives.

Staffan

Hi Staffan!

The information comes from the Swedish Transport Agency's latest boating survey and the authority's survey of exhaust emissions from Swedish leisure boats.

Lina Petersson, expert in environmental issues at the Swedish Transport Agency, visited Aktuellt on the subject - you can see it here.

Now the loosening of the beach protection is threatening with an explosive explosion on the beaches!

Our beautiful fine unique beach protection is threatened!

Why can you not live 100 meters from the beach and protect that strip of important nature where over 400 red-listed species live!

Also share the advice with the public!

One thought, why can we not have as similar boat carts as they have in the United States with brakes so you can drive home or rent a berth in a boat setup.

type garage.

Birgitta Lundin

Hi Birgitta!

You're right, in the United States most smaller motorboats are stored on a trailer ashore.

In Sweden, it is less common - partly because we have good conditions for bridge storage and partly because we do not have the same expanded system for launching as in the USA.

So incredibly brave and valuable of you to dare to highlight how much boating pollutes!

Many find it difficult to admit that their lifestyle has a negative effect on the environment, as can be seen in the outraged comments.

We all need to make sacrifices and this creates a good basis for discussion at the coffee table.

Thanks for a really important review!

Very good topic to highlight.

Impacts on the marine environment would never have been tolerated if they had occurred on land where it was more visible.

It also seems to be a sensitive topic that stirs emotions, which makes it extra good to discuss, good SVT!

However, I think it is a bit arrogant that so many here think they know better than the researcher in the field.

It's also a little scary that some people go after her like they do when she's just doing her job.

If you stop dirty diesel vehicles that enter Sweden and steal environmentally friendly boat engines.

So more people would get motives for replacing old engines.

Olle

There are more environmentally friendly fuels to run boat engines, Ecopar is an example but the government does nothing to help so it will be easier and cheaper to access, works with biogas itself and the government has also handled it very poorly.
