Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The strict corona protection requirements spoiled the desire for a wedding celebration for many couples in January: The number of marriages fell significantly in January compared to the same month last year by 13 percent to 2030, according to the State Statistical Office IT.NRW announced on Wednesday.

In January 2020, when there was no mask requirement and contact restrictions, 2,327 couples were married.

The largest number of marriages took place in August in 2020: More than 10,000 couples tied the knot in the summer and vacation month.
