Munich / Berlin (dpa / lby) - In the course of the ban on the Salafist association Ansaar International and its offshoots, there were also several raids in Bavaria.

The interior ministry announced on Wednesday that the emergency services had searched three apartments in Upper Bavaria and one in Upper Franconia.

A container with donated old clothes and two bank accounts of a sub-organization were confiscated.

"This is a sensitive blow to terrorist financing and Salafist proselytizing in Germany," said Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU). "With the association ban, we can dry up this Salafist swamp better." Ansaar International used a network of associations and individuals to generate donations. In addition, the association also spreads Islamist-extremist content in Germany. "Anyone who supports Hamas, Jabhat al-Nusra and Al-Shabab with donations is not providing humanitarian aid, but encouraging terrorism and discrediting the highly commendable commitment of the numerous reputable aid organizations," said Herrmann.

The Federal Ministry of the Interior had justified the association's ban with financing terrorism.

He had collected donations with the intention of passing them on to terrorist groups abroad, in particular to the Al-Nusra Front in Syria, to the Palestinian Hamas and to Al-Shabaab in Somalia.
