Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Cyclists in Baden-Württemberg have to be careful today: The police are particularly targeting them as part of the so-called two-wheeler week.

According to the Interior Ministry, 1,150 officers at 278 checkpoints are to keep an eye on them.

The aim of the traffic safety campaign is to promote mutual consideration.

The ministry also wants to respond to the two-wheeler boom and the increased proportion of bicycle traffic.

At the weekend at the start of the season, the motorcyclists come into focus at more than 100 checkpoints in the country.

According to the ministry, more than 12,400 accidents involving cyclists occurred in the southwest in 2020.

There were also almost 4,700 accidents involving motorcycles.

71 motorcyclists died.
