The Guardian newspaper quoted a Saudi official as saying that a meeting between Saudi and Syrian intelligence officials took place in Damascus.

The newspaper pointed out that the head of Saudi intelligence, Lieutenant General Khaled Al-Humaidan, met yesterday, Monday, Major General Ali Mamlouk, the Syrian Vice President for Security Affairs.

The Saudi official, who requested anonymity, told the Guardian that this had been planned for a while without any development, but regional developments facilitated communication.

In January of last year, media close to the Syrian regime reported that a friendly Syrian-Saudi meeting took place in New York, and that it was confirmed that the tension that characterized the relationship between the two countries during the years would disappear, after reports of rapprochement between Damascus and Riyadh, Albeit at a slow pace.
