Metzingen (dpa) - The fashion retailer Hugo Boss continues to suffer from the restrictions in connection with the corona pandemic.

Sales fell in the first quarter by 10 percent to 497 million euros, as the company announced on Wednesday in Metzingen.

Thanks to savings, Hugo Boss achieved a small operating profit (EBIT) of one million euros.

The bottom line, however, was that Hugo Boss was still in the red, even if the loss of 18 million euros in the same period last year has now decreased to 8 million euros.

The fashion retailer was cautious about the current year.

The company cannot give a precise outlook at the moment, it said.

However, the management is expecting a noticeable recovery in its business over the course of the year.

In the second quarter, Hugo Boss expects that sales will almost double compared to the particularly hard hit quarter of the previous year.
