Ellerdorf (dpa / lno) - A fire broke out on a farm in Ellerdorf (Rendsburg-Eckernförde district) on Tuesday evening.

As a spokesman for the fire brigade announced, it was a so-called rest yard, which was no longer used for agriculture.

More than 100 forces were deployed to bring the fire under control.

The spokesman reported that the on-site water supply was a major difficulty; around 1200 meters of hose lines had to be laid.

The extinguishing work lasted into the night and in some cases was to continue on Wednesday.

The couple who lived in the courtyard were unharmed, according to the fire brigade.

However, the entire facility, including the residential building, was completely destroyed.

The exact cause of the fire was initially unclear.
