On Wednesday, a man shot his partner in the legs before spraying him with gasoline in the street in Mérignac, Gironde.

The man was arrested shortly after the incident by the police.

In 2020, 90 women were killed by their companions according to official figures, against 146 the previous year. 

A 31-year-old woman, mother of three, died after being burned alive by her companion Tuesday afternoon in Mérignac in Gironde, AFP learned Wednesday from a police source.

Shortly before 6.30 p.m., in the middle of the street, the man shot his partner in the legs, who collapsed.

He then doused her with gasoline, while she was alive and set her on fire.

The 44-year-old was arrested shortly after the incident by the police, the same source said.

The pavilion where the couple lived was set on fire in unspecified circumstances.
