Dresden (dpa) - After the climate protection ruling of the Federal Constitutional Court, Saxony's energy and environment minister Wolfram Günther (Greens) expects a much earlier phase-out of lignite-based power generation.

"To stick to the coal phase-out in 2038 under the new framework, as some federal politicians are currently doing, is unworldly," he told the editorial network Germany (RND / Wednesday).

There is no need to argue about a politically set date for the coal phase-out, said the minister.

«Electricity from wind and sun is the cheapest electricity on the market.

That already makes coal mining and generating electricity unprofitable.

The CO2 pricing increases the pressure on climate-damaging energy generation, ”said Günther.

Saxony-Anhalt's Environment Minister Claudia Dalbert

(Greens) told the RND: “The sooner we get out of coal

, the better.

At the same time, we have to

massively expand

wind energy

and photovoltaics. "

Brandenburg's Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) said, on the other hand, that the phase-out of lignite-based power generation should take place by 2038 at the latest.

"We stand by this compromise, which poses great challenges for everyone, the region, the employees and a secure energy supply," said Woidke to the RND.

Last week, the judges in Karlsruhe obliged the legislature to regulate the reduction targets for greenhouse gas emissions for the period after 2030 in more detail by the end of next year.

This concerns the Climate Protection Act, which has so far stipulated annual emissions for areas such as the energy sector, industry, transport and agriculture for the years up to 2030.
