There is no longer an MEP in Strasbourg since February 2020 ... but soon there will be a head of state.

Emmanuel Macron will be visiting the Alsatian capital this Sunday, May 9.

A date not really chosen at random since it corresponds to Europe Day.

The President of the Republic will be greeted at 1:30 p.m. by the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli.

An interview is planned with the Italian, before the launch of the conference on the future of Europe.

Then Emmanuel Macron will be expected at the Bas-Rhin prefecture, where the signing of the three-year contract between the State and local communities will be discussed.

Towards a single head office, in Brussels or Strasbourg?

“On this occasion, he will discuss with local elected officials the expectations of this contract to strengthen Strasbourg's European attractiveness and contribute to the city's European and international influence,” wrote the Elysee in a press release.

For more than a year and the absence of plenary sessions in the Alsatian capital, the city's European status has suffered.

Some are calling for a single seat in Brussels for the European Parliament, while others are defending Strasbourg.
