Tübingen (lsw / dpa) - After the end of the "Tübingen model", the city fears an increase in undetected corona infections.

According to Tuesday, the number of rapid tests in Tübingen has plummeted.

While 24,000 tests were carried out in the last week of the experiment, it was only 8,000 in the first week with the federal emergency brake.

As part of the “Open with Security” model experiment, citizens in Tübingen were able to visit outdoor restaurants, retail outlets and cultural demonstrations from March onwards, if they presented a negative corona test.

The federal emergency brake ended the project last week.

It also suspended the Tübingen rule, which provided for mandatory testing for employees in larger companies.

According to the city, the federal emergency brake means that more infected people without symptoms in Tübingen remain undetected and fewer chains of infection are broken off.

Mayor Boris Palmer (Greens) and emergency doctor Lisa Federle asked the people of Tübingen to continue to use the free test offers as often as possible.

"The more we test, the faster the incidence can be reduced and schools, daycare centers and shops can reopen," both said.
