A 40-year-old driver tried to overtake a car in front on Tuesday evening, the police announced on Wednesday morning.
He rammed the vehicle in front of a 28-year-old, causing him to skid and hit a mast.
The mast on the Mainz-Worms railway line was significantly damaged by the accident.
The rail traffic is permanently stopped.
Both drivers were injured.
The vehicles had to be towed.
A preliminary investigation into a traffic accident under the influence of alcohol will be initiated against the person who caused the accident.
