Chinanews.com, Phnom Penh, May 5 (Reporter Ouyang Kaiyu) Due to the continuous spread of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the Sihanoukville Provincial Government of Cambodia announced the extension of Sihanoukville’s "city closure" measures for a week.

According to a report from the Ministry of Health of Cambodia on the 5th, the country reported 672 new confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia that day, and 228 new cases were cured and discharged from hospital.

Under the severe epidemic situation, many provincial governments decided to further tighten control measures to prevent the epidemic from spreading further.

Among them, the Sihanoukville Provincial Government announced that it would extend Sihanoukville’s "closure" measures for a week to more effectively control the epidemic.

The Seju Provincial Government also announced that from the 5th, two villages in Bitser County will be "closing the city" for a period of two weeks.

Preah Sihanouk Province Governor Guo Zonglang stated that Sihanoukville entered the "closed city" status on April 23 and should have been "unblocked" on the 4th. However, in view of the continuous rapid growth of new cases in Sihanoukville, the provincial government decided to extend the "closed" City" order.

At the same time, the vaccination work for all members of the "red zone" in the capital Phnom Penh, the "severely affected area" of the epidemic, is proceeding in an orderly manner.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said in a speech on the 5th that the "red zone" in Phnom Penh is a high-risk zone. In order to curb the spread of the epidemic, the "red zone" has been sealed off and the normal life of residents has been disrupted. Therefore, they must first obtain vaccines.

Hun Sen asked the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of National Defense and other relevant departments to continue to carry out vaccination work in the "red zone" and vaccinate 520,000 people.

Hun Sen said that once the "red zone" completes the vaccinations for all employees, the number of people vaccinated across the country will exceed 2 million, accounting for 20% of the target of more than 10 million vaccinations.

Hun Sen said that after the completion of the vaccinations for all members of the "red zone", Phnom Penh City and Kangla Province will launch a universal vaccination campaign, and the people will be able to get the vaccine.
