Schwerin (dpa / mv) - After a year, around one billion euros flowed out of the MV protection fund set up during the Corona crisis.

As of the end of March it was 966 million euros, as the Ministry of Finance announced in Schwerin on Tuesday.

According to the information, a total of 2.85 billion euros are planned for this fund by 2024.

The country must repay the loan from 2025 with 142.5 million euros annually.

Heiko Miraß (SPD), State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, was confident that the economy would recover this year.

In view of the repayment period, he spoke of a realistic but also ambitious goal.

Most of the money paid goes back to health with more than 400 million euros, followed by the economy with more than 250 million euros.

There had been clear criticism of the protection fund in the past, for example from opposition parties.

In their view, the money is used to tackle problems that have been known for many years and have been neglected, such as digitization and the equipping of schools.

According to the ministry, the fund has earmarked 400 million euros for digitization and more than 250 million euros for education and science.
