Last Monday, May 3, the National Police arrested a warden at the Ramón y Cajal Hospital in Madrid accused of allegedly raping an 18-year-old patient admitted to the psychiatry unit. The arrested man, 36 years old and of Spanish nationality,

offered cocaine and tobacco to the young woman before committing the alleged sexual assault

, as confirmed by the Madrid Superior Police Headquarters. He was in charge of guarding the psychiatric unit at night and he is an employee hired for that night work in recent months due to the pandemic.

The medical center yesterday did not want to offer information on the case as it was under summary secrecy.

Sources from the young woman's family

regretted that the Hospital does not supervise the work of people like that of this guard

who was in charge of guarding a unit where about 30 people are admitted.

The sexual assaults happened at dawn last Thursday and last Saturday.

On April 29, the unit workers themselves discovered the

remains of a narcotic substance that could be cocaine

on the table in the victim's room

.

In addition, they verified that there had been smoked in the room where they found a lighter.

The nurses suspected that something might have happened in the room and began to investigate. Later they interrogated the young woman to explain how the cocaine had arrived at the ranch. Last Saturday the young woman confessed that she had been raped twice by the guard. The Ramón y Cajal Hospital reported the events to the National Police and the protocol of an alleged sexual assault was activated. UFAM agents arrested the alleged rapist last Monday afternoon.

The police have found out that the guard had been approaching the young woman for several days, who had been admitted to the unit for at least three weeks for a temporary mental disorder.

The detainee was offering drugs and tobacco to the young woman and even left cocaine stripes in her room at night.

He also gave her a mobile phone to contact him.

The victim is

still admitted to the psychiatry unit and the hospital has offered help to the family who have requested that she be transferred to another health center

to receive special therapy and work psychologically with her so that she can overcome her problems.

His relatives have pointed out to the police that before this episode he had not used drugs, although he did smoke.

Union sources have indicated that the same day the drug was discovered in the victim's room, the

head of the Psychiatry Unit asked human resources not to return the guard

to his job.

"He was asked not to go and even so he returned and committed the same crime of a sexual nature the next day," the same sources said.
