Mannheim (dpa / lsw) - In an apartment fire in Mannheim, two police officers were slightly injured while rescuing an 83-year-old resident.

Your neighbors alerted the fire brigade on Monday evening because of billows of smoke in the stairwell, the police said.

After the residents were taken to safety, the police heard the woman calling for help.

When the resident was released from her burning apartment, two police officers contracted smoke inhalation and were taken to a hospital.

The 83-year-old herself was uninjured.

The Firefighters put out the fire.

The cause of the fire and the amount of damage were initially unknown.
