Biedenkopf / Kassel (dpa / lhe) - Teachers from Hesse have been honored twice at the presentation of the “German Teachers Award - Innovative Lessons 2020”.

In the “Innovative Lessons” category, both first prize and the special Corona prize went to Hessian teachers.

Daniela Heinrich-Stiller from the Lahntal School in Biedenkopf received the first prize as a project manager for a project in the elective chemistry class.

The aim of “Research and Development” was to produce film from starch with various properties such as strength but also edibility.

To this end, the students examined whether foil made from corn or potato starch can be processed with household products such as salt or honey in such a way that it becomes a material that can replace plastic. In the opinion of the jury, the precise planning of the lesson plans and the independent teamwork of the students was “outstanding”. The idea is "highly innovative". Among other things, students even registered a patent for their "film with car disinfectant effect", which was developed in this way and which is to be used as a layer for burns.

The special Corona award went to Florian Bagus and Norman Seeliger from the Arnold Bode School in Kassel for their “smartPAPER” project.

As part of their vocational training, students use this app to implement a campaign for a fictitious customer.

"Especially at a time when long-distance teaching plays a very important role, the use of the app is a very good opportunity to work on subject areas in a competence-oriented and sustainable manner", says the report on the award.
