Erfurt (dpa / th) - Thuringia's Minister of Education, Helmut Holter (Linke), wants to look for ways to quickly vaccinate children as soon as there is an approved vaccine for them, according to a report.

"When the time comes, we have to ignite a special vaccination turbo," he told the newspapers of Funke Medien Thuringia (online).

Accordingly, he spoke out in favor of a «children's vaccination summit».

«Children and young people have borne the greatest burden of the pandemic.

And in a special way they have a basic need to be able to return quickly to a normal life », Holter is quoted as saying.

Last week, the German vaccine manufacturer Biontech and its US partner Pfizer announced that they would shortly apply for approval of their vaccine for children aged 12 to 15 in the EU.

A spokesman for the Thuringian Ministry of Education said that prioritization for children and young people is also conceivable - if the previously applicable prioritization groups are completely open.
