Hof (dpa / lby) - Two small children have been brought to a hospital in Hof due to life-threatening hypothermia.

The parents of the children now have to answer for the mistreatment of wards, as a police spokeswoman said on Tuesday.

The one-year-old girl and her almost two-year-old brother were found by rescue workers soaked and severely hypothermic after a call from a refugee accommodation on Sunday.

According to the police, the 26-year-old mother and 30-year-old father behaved psychologically and were “completely inaccessible”.

The children have to be treated in hospital for a long time and should then be taken into city care.

The parents came to the city's civic center on Monday and also behaved conspicuously there, it said.

Since they did not wear masks and did not allow themselves to be spoken to, they were taken out of the building against their will.

After another incident with the police on Tuesday, the two were taken to a hospital, according to a spokeswoman.

It should now be checked whether they were possibly under the influence of drugs.

The parents had not previously attracted attention because of the neglect of their children.
