Freiburg (dpa) - A legal dispute that has been going on for years about possible health risks from taking the contraceptive pill "Yasminelle" is entering the next round.

As of today, the Karlsruhe Higher Regional Court is negotiating a woman's claim for damages against the pharmaceutical distributor Bayer Vital GmbH (Az. 14 U 19/19) in Freiburg.

The plaintiff attributes serious health problems to taking the drug with its active ingredient drospirenone: In July 2009 she suffered a bilateral pulmonary embolism and a circulatory collapse with cardiac arrest because of the pill "Yasminelle" and almost died.

Bayer Vital GmbH considers the woman's claims to be unfounded.

In December 2018, the now 36-year-old failed with her claim for damages before the Waldshut-Tiengen district court.

The court found that her health problems were not beyond doubt due to the use of the contraceptive.

Other causes are also possible.

The woman had appealed against this decision - hence the process before the next higher instance.

A decision can only be expected at a later point in time.
